Description

Jodhpur is the second largest city in Rajasthan, also known as the blue city (adorned with blue coloured houses) is a very popular tourist destination for its beautiful temples, forts, palaces all set in the stark landscape of the Thar dessert. Few of the notable attractions are Mehrangarh Fort, Umaid Bhawan Palace, Jaswant Thada, and the Ghanta Ghar, or Clock Tower. This city has a rich cultural and traditional background and the best way to learn about it is to interact with a local.

What better way to experience the local culture and cuisine of the place than to cook and dine with a local family! Join Anita who has been born and brought up in the colourful atmosphere of Jodhpur for a traditional Rajasthani experience.

The entire experience will last for 2-4 hours.

Meet your host Anita at her home in Air Force area in Jodhpur. She will welcome you with a local homemade drink that will refresh you for the entire experience ahead. Get to known Anita and family as you settle in, and then you can join them in the kitchen where Anita will guide you on making some local dishes and teach you some tips and tricks of Indian cooking.

Post the fun cooking session, you can join the family in the dining area where you can gorge on the typical Rajasthani Thali that Anita will set up for you. Some of the dishes that you may get to taste in the Rajbhog (Feast of the royals) Thali are Daal Bada (Lentils and Pulses batter deep fried), Daal Batti and Churma (Five lentils curry served with roasted wheat flour balls dipped generously in pure ghee.), Kadhi Pakora (Sour Curd curry made with gram flour and spices), Gulab Jamun Ki Sabzi (Fried Mawa balls in Gravy). For dessert, Anita will serve you some of the Jodhpur favourites in the form of Lapsi (Cracked wheat cooked in Ghee) and Malpua (Fermented flour based sweets fried in Ghee and flavoured sugar syrup).

Please note - This is not a professional cooking class but rather an opportunity to cook and dine with a local home-chef. The experience will be as much about the stories around the food and local culture, as it would be about the meal itself.
